Scarlets’ first ever Finals Weekend proved a massive hit on a sun-drenched weekend celebrating the best of grassroots rugby across the region
Close to 3,000 people packed into Parc y Scarlets over three days that saw the stadium host Youth Cup and Plate Finals, Llanelli & District Second XV Plate and Cup finals and the ever-popular Junior Cup Finals from the U12s to U16s which saw the top sides in Carmarthenshire take on the cream of Pembrokeshire and Cereidgion.
In the opening game on Friday evening, Tenby Youth came out on top against Lampeter 29-22, then a strong Llandeilo Youth side added the Scarlets Cup to their Welsh Cup triumph, beating a gutsy Haverfordwest 28-5.
On Saturday afternoon, Felnfoel overcame Trimsaran 37-0 in the AJT Recycling Plate Final before Burry Port beat Carmarthen Athletic Druids 36-23 to lift the AJT Recycling Cup.
More than 1,300 family, friends and supporters attended the five junior finals on Sunday.
In the opening match Ammanford U12s beat Haverfordwest 22-0, Carmarthen Athletic won the U13s Cup, seeing off Pembroke 47-17; Llanelli Wanderers beat Fishguard 28-19 at U14s level, Burry Port U15s were too strong for Aberaeron, winning 50-19, then to finish a stunning day of rugby, Tenby and Amman Utd U16s played out a 42-38 thriller, won by a late Tenby try.
Scarlets’ Wales international prop Harri O’Connor, Gabe McDonald, Callum Woolley and Alfie Fecci-Evans were on hand to present the medals and trophies to the players.
Scarlets were delighted to welcome Llanelli MP Nia Griffith and Scarlets board member Tonia Antoniazzi to watch the showcase finals.
Scarlets Community Foundation Manager Paul Fisher said: “It’s been fantastic to see the response we’ve had from teams and their families and friends and that we are able to put these three days together over one weekend at Parc y Scarlets.
“To have several thousand people through the doors as we showcase the exciting talent we have playing rugby throughout the region was inspiring for everyone involved.
“A big thanks to WRU Community staff and GMG Leads in facilitating the Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire & Ceredigion Cups, allowing this event to be possible. We’d also like to thank the officials for supporting the event and making themselves available.”
