Wales U20s scrum-half Rhodri Lewis will join the Scarlets following the World Championships in South Africa.

Rhodri has signed a Scarlets Senior Academy contract and arrives from the Ospreys.

The 19-year-old has so far made six appearances for Wales U20s, scoring a try in the Six Nations win over Scotland this year. He has also been capped at U18s level.

Rhodri became Aberavon’s youngest ever player in the professional era when he made his debut for the Wizards at the age of 17 years and 81 days and scored a stunning solo try in front of the S4C cameras against Swansea that season.

He is a former pupil of Ysgol Gymraeg Ystalyfera Bro Dur and played his mini and junior rugby for Cwmllynfell and Abercrave. RFC.

Scarlets head coach Dwayne Peel said: “Rhodri is a talented young nine, sharp, with great feet and a good service. He has impressed with the U20s this year and I’m looking forward to working with him once he returns from the U20s World Cup in South Africa.

“In Archie, Efan and now Rhodri, we will have three exciting young scrum-halves snapping at the heels of Gar for next season and I’m sure all of them will be pushing him for that No. 9 jersey.”
