Josh Macleod: We’re moving forward, but we have to cut out the errors

Skipper Josh Macleod insists the Scarlets are moving in the right direction, but need to cut out the errors that are costing the side dear.

Macleod produced a player-of-the-match display in only his second match back from injury with the flanker delivering a menacing performance at the breakdown, while putting in a big shift in defence.

But picking up the medal in his post-match interview, the disappointment was clear to see.

“There are glimpses of improvement for sure, Dwayne has mentioned individual errors, myself included and we seem to be our own worst enemy at the moment,” he said.

“We are giving away some soft points. Defensively we are taking steps every week, we are feeling comfortable fulfilling those roles. If we can cut those errors out, something is going to click.”

Asked if the side just needed a slice of luck to turn things around, Macleod added:  “Luck is one thing, sometimes you create your own and sometimes it just doesn’t go for you. We can’t rely on luck, we have got to go out there, perform, compete and close out the big games because ultimately come the end of the season, that is going to be vital for us.”

It was Macleod’s first full 80 minutes in nine months.

He added: “I am getting back into the swing of things, doing my best to stay out there. It is nice to get an 80 under my belt and long may it continue. But I am here for the team and to do my best for the team. At the end of the day we need to come away with victories and that is all that is on my mind at the moment.”
