Four Scarlets have been named in Steve Tandy’s first Wales squad for the Quilter Nations Series this autumn.
Taine Plumtree, Blair Murray, Tom Rogers and Joe Hawkins are included in a 39-strong group that will meet up on Monday to prepare for Tests against Argentina, Japan, New Zealand and South Africa.
Plumtree, Murray and Rogers were part of Wales’ squad in Japan this summer, while for Hawkins, in his first season at the Scarlets, it is a welcome recall after winning his last cap during the 2023 Six Nations.
Five uncapped players are among Tandy’s picks – Dragons hooker Brodie Coghlan, Ospreys second row James Fender and back rower Morgan Morse, Cardiff prop Danny Southworth and Bath centre Louie Hennessey.
Saracens prop Rhys Carre is also included following confirmation by the Professional Rugby Board that he is eligible for Wales selection.
British & Irish Lion Jac Morgan will captain the side.
Tandy said: “It’s been really exciting going through the whole process and realising how many good players we’ve got. There’s a really good mix of some young guys coming in, mixed with some experience as well. But the overall feeling is really exciting and I can’t wait to get the boys into camp on Monday.”
Wales kick off their autumn campaign on Sunday, November 9 against Argentina (3.10pm kick-off), followed by Japan on Saturday, November 15 (5.40pm), the All Blacks on Saturday, November 22 (3.10pm), with the series finishing up with a clash against the world champion Springboks on Saturday, November 29 (3.10pm).
